Syrian desserts are known to have a wonderful taste and very delicious. Kaak is a traditional Syrian milk bun cookie that are soft, fluffy, and spiced with Mahlab. It's perfect with a cup of coffee or tea.
In a large mixing bowl, add flour, sugar and melted butter then mix.
Add milk, mahlab, nutmeg, yeast and baking powder. Knead well until you get a soft dough.
Cover and put it in a warm place until brewing, for about one hour 30 minutes.
Take a small portion of the dough. Make a long strip and wrap it around itself to obtain the shape of the kaak as in the picture of the recipe. Repeat the step until the dough is finished.
Place Kaak in a baking sheet lined with butter paper. Set aside to rest for about 3 hours.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees . Watch first tray for cooking time as every oven cooking heat is different.
Place on lower rack of oven and bake for about 15 minutes or until kaak is golden brown.
Move to rack to cool.
