Mahalabia – Arabic Sweet

Mahalabia is one of the most famous desserts in the Levant. It is called Mahlaya in Damascus. In Egypt, Muhallabiya has many names consisting of milk, starch and flavorings.

 8.50 cups (2 liters) milk
 2 tbsp cornstarch
 ½ cup sugar or as desired
 ½ cup pistachios, crushed
 1 tsp vanilla
 1 tsp blossom water

Put the milk in a saucepan and dissolve the starch in a cup with a little milk and then add it to the rest of the milk and stir well.

Put the pot over low heat and start stirring.

Add sugar, vanilla and blossom water.

Bring to boil on low heat, you’ll notice the milk mixture begin to thicken slowly.

Pour into serving dishes and place in the fridge to cool well for at least 3 hours.

To serve, sprinkle with pistachios.
